A trip to the state library

Our girls love to visit the book shops whenever there is one in the shopping complex, they usually pick a number of books from the shelves and sit themselves down on the floor in the book store, Crystal would start reading and Pearl usually flipping through the pages as she doesn't know how to read yet. They always treat the book store like library.

So the library is the best place for them to do so, they can read as many as they like and borrow some home as well. The state library allows its family card member holder to borrow up to 20 books at one time, it is sufficient for each of us to borrow some books home each time we visit the library.

Nice to see them reading booksI picked some books and sat down with them as well, my choices are mostly on baking, cooking and health.

Clet would soon becoming a Castor farmer, he chose some journals on planting

The books that we borrowed from the library recently

Feng Shui book I am reading

I have been trying to finish reading a book that Clet bought for me a month ago, the "Monkey 2010 Fortune & Feng Shui" by Lilian & Jennifer Too. Clet bought one on his animal sign earlier and I requested him to bought one for me too. We have been buying these books for our reading pleasure and references for the last 2 years. Interestingly it tells the recommended feng shui cures, remedies & enhancer for the year in general as well as on each individual animal sign, depending on which book you buy.

The book tells that it is not going to be an easy year for everyone and for Monkey, it is in direct conflict with the Tai Sui and the affliction of the wu wang causes some obstacles to manifest! Oppss..

There are some recommended remedies in this book..but it is quite hard to follow exactly what the book says but it is good to know what is going on "around" us, to me feng shui is about the environment and surrounding at where we are, both our home and our work place.

Feng shui is a very interesting living science, there are so much to learn about.

Book : Secrets of Asia's Most Successful Internet Gurus

I found a very good and informative book on Internet Marketing written by Pearlin Siow entitled, "SECRETS of Asia's Most Successful INTERNET GURUS" at Popular Book store. The selling price for this book is RM45.60 with a 20% off.

It was so interesting that I managed to finish reading the whole book in a night, yes, in just a matter of few hours. For those who are into Internet Marketing will definitely benefit from this book, big time; it is very well written and easy to understand. It has enhanced my knowledge to the wide range of Internet Marketing out there though a lot of work still needed to be done in order to get the know hows on areas that interest me most.

The content of the book is written in an interview contexts. The content covers :

1. List Building - Jaz Lai
2. blogging - Alvin Phang
3. Pay-Per-clicj (PPC) Advertising - Eugene Ang
4. Affiliate Marketing - Ewen Chia
5. Ebay - Benjamin Marc Wee
6. Niche Marketing - Patric Chan
7. Membership Website - Ian Del Carmen
8. Search Engine Marketing - Fabian Lim
9. Content Marketing -Patrick Grove
10. Copywriting - Ng Khai Siung

You will find each Gurus revealed their success methods in this book and the best thing is that it provides the websites for each Gurus at the end of each topic which allows us to explore further on what they have to offer.

Personally, I reckon this is a very good read for a newbie like me and recommend to all.

Caffeine good for Asthma??

Asthma, one of the serious and potentially fatal diseases suffered by many people out there, including my dad. Because of my dad's condition, it leads me wanting to know more about the nutritional blockbusters that fight asthma. The treatment that my dad receives from the hospital are mainly using medications to control the disease rather than on how to protect or make him stronger to fight the disease.
A very useful book entitled "Eat and Heal" by the Editors of FC&A Medical Publishing, that I bought few months back has provided me with the basic nutritional knowledge needed to fight asthma. In summary, the nutritional blockbusters that fight asthma are:
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin A
  • Lycopene (such as tomatoes, pink grapefruit, and watermelon)
  • Magnesium and selenium (broccoli, oysters, beans)
  • Water (at least 6 glasses a day)

and interestingly surprise that Caffeine is useful to fight asthma as well. Reseach shows that caffeine helps relax bronchial tubes so that airways stay open as such it can help improve the symptoms for up to four hours. Therefore, it would be helpful to start the day with a fragrant cup of coffee. I do not know whether my dad would like to have a try on starting his day with a cup of coffee!!?? I should try to convince him.

SCARED TO FAIL vs DARE TO FAIL

Have you ever been in the situation where you are thinking of trying something out but never put it into action getting it done? Give all sorts of excuses for procrastination?? Or even abandoning the whole idea after some times?? The excuses given to ourselves or others for not proceeding with the ideas in mind are non exhaustive. The most common ones are: no time, it was raining that day, I am not good at that, nanti lah (wait for the right time), etc, etc….Too bad isn’t it? In actual fact, sometimes the main culprit behind it simply SCARED TO FAIL??

The Scared To Fail devil came to me when I was thinking of baking a chiffon cake recently, which is too petty to mention. Due to past experiences, I delay my baking day after day until Clet finally giving a little comment on when he can have a piece of the chiffon cake that I suppose to be making, and wonder what happen to the cake mix that he was asked to buy weeks ago. My answer to him was simply “I scared to fail AGAIN ba!!”. His reply was “What can be worst, if it didn’t turn out to be what you expected we still can eat bah!!” Be honest with you, I had attended a few baking classes, followed instructions from cakes baking books, obtain advises from the gurus, however, I still fail in baking. There are times I got so disappointed that I packed all my baking stuff and store them all in the store room.

Comes to think of it, Clet’s reply was simply a “DARE TO FAIL” attitude. I vividly remember Clet got a copy of this book entitled “DARE TO FAIL” by Billi Lim years back. I believe this book must have inspired a lot of readers that include Clet too… It was mentioned by Billi that “Failing is part of success” therefore one should not allow fear of failing as a stumbling block to achieve successes, especially to a small task like mine. :))

”Here are a few quotes from Billi, “Failing in the past does not mean that you are going to fail in the future.” "Not having succeeded can be forgiven. Not having tried at all is unforgiveable." It a great book to read and be inspired.
