Santa's bag

My better half requested a Santa's bag few hours before we were to load and carry all the Christmas presents to the family Christmas celebration on 26th December.  A bit of a struggle here and there, and the machine stuck many times during the sewing process.  Rushing after the time is stressful.
It was my better half's idea to have the Santa's bag so he has to help to design and cut out the green Christmas tree patterns.  Luckily we have the essential colours of red, green and white clothes available.

The sewing process is not tough but I prefer to have more time for me to do a better job

Carolling at home 2015

We invited the Children's Liturgy carolling group to our home on 18th December.  Our girls are part of them.  It was heavy downpour prior to their arrival, it's a blessing from above.

goodies bags are ready for the children
besides Christmas carols, there are role play on Mother Mary, Joseph, the Angels
My girls used to played the role of Mother Mary and the Angel in the previous years.  They have now grown up, letting the younger ones take up the roles, the costumes no longer fit them :D

wishing all my bloggers friends a

Singer Sewing Machine

My Singer machine that I bought about 2 years back has been under utilised.  It is collecting dust all this while.  After much comments from my better half of my abandoned machine, I moved it to my table now trying to use it..most of the time I am doing some alterations and sewing up our own clothing which the threads are falling apart.

I have been busy re exploring the functions of the presser foots that came together with the machine when I bought it.  That's what keeping me busy and less time to update my blog.  I am also learning through visual on how to make bags...hope I can start the project soon.

this is my Singer sewing machine, nicely covered

and when it uncovered it is look like this..

These are the presser foots which I am trying to learn how to use them.

My Birthday

This is a late post...but I still want to record down my birthday here as an annual affair and many more birthdays to come.
This year I remembered to make some red eggs on my birthday.  I am very thankful to have received many birthday wishes and messages in my FB and whatsapps.

I ordered a small sponge cheese cake, we love cheese cake, we almost finished the whole cake in one setting.
cheese in between the sponge cake layers, just nice for our taste buds.
It has been a while we have not dined in Japanese restaurant.  I chose to have Japanese food on my birthday.
Besides having Duck fried rice & Ramen, my kids like to pick their favourite sushi from the conveyor belt.

I had this set of salmon bento.

Fruits ABC (Ais Batu Campur or Mixed Ice) Dessert

Tanjung Aru beach is popular for its beautiful sunset, it is a famous spot for the tourists & locals but we hardly go there.  I wish this area can be upgraded for the comfort of the visitors.

We had this fruits ABC dessert at Tanjung Aru Beach 1, the stall is located inside the eateries.  This stall is operated by my brother's classmate.  We ordered the small cup (RM5.00) for 2 of us to share.
ABC (Mixed Ice with syrup) at the bottom and fresh fruits filled to the brim, a good cup of dessert.
I accidentally dropped the only piece of the kiwi, what a waste.
I told my brother that it would be nicer if the fruits are served cold and the shaved ice is in fine texture and not hard like small pieces of rocks, so that he could convey a customer's comment to his classmate.  Anyhow, her business is very good.
Many different type of fruits on display.  These are real fresh fruits, I was told that the stall operator take the fruits down when she closes her stall and rearrange the fruits before she starts her business each day..she has acquired the skills in arranging fruits like this over the years.

Cheesy Egg Sandwich

A special request by my girls to their daddy to make this Cheesy Egg Sandwich for them. As you can see the cheese is literally melting and flowing after it is cut in halve.   No wonder my girls said they miss the sandwich that their daddy make for them.

I added slices of tomatoes to my serving, simply satisfying tea break with a cup of hot coffee.

gone in just a minute.  Not enough for me, will make more next time.

Check out the making of this Cheesy Egg Sandwich here :

Mystery of a Lonely Bear

My better half spotted a plush toy bear being left by the road side on the way home after fetching our girls from school a few weeks ago.  We are still puzzling with who and why.  Who left the bear there ? and why it's being left there ? Is it meant for adoption ? or is there something fishy behind it ?

It is a nice and sizeable plush toy bear sitting very lonely by the road side.  No notes can be sighted.

It was placed at the junction, can be easily spotted by the passerby.

Not sure what happened after that.  Remains a mystery to us.  Will you pick up the toy bear in a situation like this ??

Sweet Potatoes Fritters

I usually make sweet potatoes bubur cha cha, a couple of weeks ago, I tried to make them into fritters so that my girls get to eat the sweet potatoes rather than only the soup.  I am glad that my girls like them though the appearance of the fritters do not look yummy, too plain for food presentation, haaa..

We can just take a piece or two for snacking during the afternoon before dinner time.  Sweet potatoes is a healthier choice than many other processed food for the children.

I recorded down the preparation methods here for reference and for future improvement :

Our backyard resident

Our dog, Lucky, has been our backyard resident for the past 3 years.  Once in a while we will let him go to the front porch, he barks at every single dog at his sight, and starts barking at things that are not familiar to him.  Very alert yet annoyingly noisy to the neighbours.  He will free himself out from the gate whenever he gets the chance, then he will have no mercy looking for a fight with other dogs or rather other dogs want to fight with him, hurting himself for no reason, it is hard to stop the dogs when they are fighting.  For these reasons, it is best for him to be the guard dog at the backyard.

Recently we cemented part of our backyard, probably he still has not used to the new flooring, he chose to sit in the flower pot like this, almost killing the poor plants in the pot if we hadn't moved the flower pot away.   We have found a girlfriend for him, hopefully they will not fight when they meet each other.  haaaaa....:DD

Teacher Appreciation Party 谢师宴 2015

As a gesture of appreciation to their teachers for their guidance and teaching for the whole 6 long years, the primary 6 students hold a party for their teachers in school before the school term came to an end, the party was celebrated with over flowing of food and performances from each class.

Each student brought along one type of food for the potluck.  My girl chose to bring jelly or pudding. We supposed to make the jellies for her to bring to school, however, she requested that the texture of the jellies must be similar to the store bought ones that she likes, I have no confidence in meeting her request..so we opted for the store bought ones to avoid disappointment.

This was what happened the night before the party.  Sisters joined hands opening up the jelly puddings and arranged nicely into the food containers.

The texture of these jelly pudding is very nice, soft and bouncy, not too sweet, 4 assorted colours and flavours.  Very presentable for parties.  Best serve chilled.
We couldn't resist to pop a few into our mouths, luckily we bought extra or else it wouldn't be enough to bring to school..:DDD

Dim Sum Lunch

Let me share with you our dim sum lunch (the pictures) that we had after our girl's graduation ceremony last Friday.

We planned to have a simple meal near the school but we had problem finding a parking around there.  We just drove further to one of the the new shop houses along Jalan Donggongon and stumbled upon this restaurant.
My girl wanted to order meehoon soup, surprisingly they do not serve meehoon soup, only konlou mee is available..though the konlou mee looks good, but we ended up fill our table with dim sum dishes.
this radish cake is not as tasty as those I have tried before
Ham Rolls
Char Sau Pau
I like this Wu Kok, crispy on the outside but not dry
the prawns are of reasonable size in these har gow
Chicken feet

Siew mai is the must have item in any dim sum meal
My little girl ordered this porridge
smokey hot from the steamer

The total bill came up to RM59.20 (less than USD15.00).  Overall it was a good dim sum lunch, the portion that they serve are in reasonable size, the staff there are helpful.  We shall be their return customers to try out other stuff in their menu, hopefully they will serve meehoon soup by then.
