Harvest Festival Celebration, 30-31 May 2015

The Theme for the Harvest Festival Celebration at the newly open shopping mall, Imago at KK Times Square, is sea world.  The stage is surrounded by colourful designs of sea creatures.  We were there right after Sunday Mass last week, the mall is still pretty empty.

Speedy 4 Dishes Dinner

Yes, we had 4 dishes for dinner without cooking merely have to heat them up and cooked rice.  It was in one of the busy night last week,  we tapau food from the school canteen.  The spread of dishes serve at the school canteen just like those in the restaurant, with much cheaper price.   We did that once in a while to save the time to prepare dinner especially when we come back late in the evening.

Clearing off old stock

I was once a home base florist while having a full time job.  Due to many contributing factors, I did not pursue further to develop the business and soon the interest have died out but the stocks that I have remained kept in the store at the family home.  During the recent renovation at the family home, Clet back my old stocks and old memories of one of my failed business attempts.  What should I do with them?

Since my Kids Fashion business is in its last month of business, I am clearing off the stocks at the shop, it is the good opportunity to sell off the old florist stuff at the same time.  I offered a good discounted price to clear unwanted stuff in the house as well.  One man junk is an another man's treasure.

Famous Pastry from Sandakan

My colleague brought us some tau sar piang and tau yung salted egg pastry from Sandakan as promised.

These pastry are selling like hot cakes in Sandakan. This was the first time I have tasted these pastries and they are really nice..soft and smooth, the sweetness is just nice, honestly much better than those selling here in KK, even after 3 days, the texture is still soft and smooth.  For the 1st time I enjoyed eating tau sar piang and recommended it to my husband :D.  I brought one back for him to try.

Overnight Trip to Mesilau Kundasang -Day 2

The next day, we woke up early in the chill morning.  Everyone were excited to find the majestic view of Mount Kinabalu, it is so close as if we are almost reach the mountain top.  My youngest daughter was so excited, she was the one who woke us up in the morning.  Our hand phones worked very hard to capture the best view.

Me with the Mountain view at the back

It was so cold that I have a bowl of rice wine chicken soup to warm up my body

On the way back,  we stop by Kundasang market place to buy some local vegetables and for the 1st time, I shopped at the flowers stalls

small pots of chillies, I did not buy any

spread of flowers

Cactus, these are the ones I was looking for

I bought 3 pots of flowers.  The red one is meant for my mum for Mother's Day but she asked me to take care of it.  She said this flower is very common.

and I also bought 3 small pots of cactus.  Now I will have to take care of my plants which I have never done before.  The weather is so hot,  I have been watering my plants for the last 2 days when I reach home after work.

Overnight Trip to Mesilau Kundasang - Day 1

We went for an overnight trip at Mesilau Kundasang last weekend, stayed at Kinabalu View Chalet.  Mesilau is the highest accessible point by road at the foot of Majestic Mount Kinabalu.
.
Our double cab was loaded with the necessities for us to have a comfortable stay at the cool climate.
As usual we had a brief stopover at Tamparuli town to have its famous Tamparuli mee before continuing our journey.  After 2 hours + road journey from Kota Kinabalu, we arrived at the chalet.  Mount Kinabalu was fully covered by thick cloud throughout our journey there, we were unable to have a glimpse of it.

Our family members occupied the whole 3 chalets, which is good that we can make the noises without disturbing others.  Each chalet has its own kitchen equipped with basic utensils, the set up of the room are very basic with the feel of staying in the kampung.
Not long after arriving, Clet has started to set up the BBQ while waiting for the rest to arrive.

The only set back of this place is the flies, there are up to thousands of them sticking and flying around.  Even the smoke, flies repellent spray could not chase them away.  We have to cover our food while eating that has totally spoiled my appetite. Those flies disappear when sun set and come back in the morning, yuck!! The same situation happened when we stayed at one of the chalet around that place many years ago.  I was told that this is because of the fertilizer used at the surrounding farms and also the cattle farm nearby.  I believe there must be a way to keep these flies away.
Forgot about the flies.  We walked around taking photos of the flowers in front of the chalet.

Clet set up the tent for the kids to play but  it is too small for them to stay inside, our kids has grown up my dear.
The highlight of the night was the double celebration of SIL's 50th birthday and Mother's Day.  Both the homemade mango cake and cheese cake are so delicious, I had slices of both cake and hot coffee for dinner.
