Desert Rose plant under attacked

I was very surprise to see the condition of our Desert Rose plants on last weekend, My lovely Desert Rose plant 富贵花树 has been under attacked.  It was a well bloomed plant like this in my earlier post but I was devastated to see how it became overnight.  I took a closer look and I found the culprit..   ,
can you see it?? and the condition of the leaves :(..
The culprit is just right there.....The caterpillar has obviously tired and full after chewing on the leaves, it's resting on the tiny branch.

It also caused much destruction to our other pot of Desert Rose.

My better half took it off the plant and placed it at the back of the house, but another (not sure whether it is the same one) caterpillar appeared again on the same plant the next morning.  This time he put it outside our fencing in front of our house.  It came back again on the next day, unbelievable, it's not a butterfly yet couldn't fly, we still wonder how it could find the way back to the same plant again....???
we have to put it inside a container with air holes and a piece of leave to avoid it from causing further damage to our Desert Rose and other plants.
what would you do to these caterpillars when they come visit your garden ??

  1. Sawasdee krub!

If you ask all my Thai cousins, they will take it and fry it in the wok with lots of spicy sambal belacan.

  2. I have the exact species of caterpillar on my desert roses! They come sometimes and just eat up everything. What to do, push them off the plant and kill lor.

Just one time, put one in a jar so that the kids can watch the caterpillar grow.

  4. Yeah! I know exactly what happened when I saw the leaves coz it happened to my better half's sunflower too!

She had a nice and big sunflower and we noticed the leaves were being eaten. I thought it was grasshoppers at first but didn't see any (and besides it was concrete) and only one day found a fat caterpillar happily munching on the leaves. They really like sunflowers, have 2 and both died. :(

    1. the sunflower leaves are big, enough for them to munch till they turn into butterflies..now I have to check on my plants to get rid of the intruders.

  5. I am scared of worms, caterpillar, anything slimy. I was hoping you will keep the caterpillar and show us when it turns to butterfly.
If I were you , I would have 'flip it' far far away, because it destroyed such a beautiful plant.

  6. This happens to me all the time. But I never did anything to the caterpillar, I will just let them enjoy their meal and hope that once they turn into a beautiful butterfly (or watever that they turned to) they will come to back garden again :)
